Incontinence

Our Approach

Current treatment options for those with overactive bladder include various medications and even surgery to help correct the issue. These options also come with many unwanted and potentially serious side effects.

At MMTR, we try to answer the question as to why the patient has lost voluntary control of their bladder; what could cause the urinary sphincter to weaken or lose function. We believe in addressing the root cause of symptoms – not in trying to cover up or work around them. Using the MyoWorx® program for overactive bladder has proven to be a favourable model for our patients. The MyoWorx® approach reveals underlying injury that should be addressed prior to additional therapy.

MyoWorx® clinical data to date for overactive bladder indicates that 73% of patients improve.

What is Incontinence?

Incontinence  in general involves involuntary urination or defecation. Our particular clinical treatment focuses on urinary incontinence. In the case of urinary incontinence, sufferers lose the ability to hold urine because voluntary control of the urinary sphincter is either lost or weakened. This can be associated with frequent urination or overactive bladder (OAB).

The National Association of Continence in the U.S. states that 17% of women and 16% of men over the age of 18 suffer from OAB. According to the Canadian Continence Foundation, it is estimated that nearly 1 in 5 Canadians over the age of 35 suffer from overactive bladder. Although the prevalence increases as we age, individuals of all ages are susceptible to this condition.
