Plantar Fasciitis

Our Approach

Treatment at MMTR Physiotherapy begins with a thorough assessment examining why the patient may have the condition to begin with. This perspective will provide unique insight into the mechanical and neuromuscular connections to the symptoms, so as to provide an explanation of how it may have come to be as well as a plan to best alleviate or reduce the pain.

This approach uses the MyoWorx® assessment and treatment model. It reveals underlying injury that should be addressed prior to additional therapy. The MyoWorx® approach is a fully integrated systems model which determines our treatment protocol. It allows us to dig deeper into the possible causes of pain and symptoms in order to provide a long-term strategy to resolve the issue, not just a band-aid approach.

What is Plantar Fasciitis?

Plantar Fasciitis is a common cause of heel pain and may also be associated with heel spurs. The condition involves irritation of the fibrous tissue connecting the heel to the ball of the foot, called the plantar fascia. This tissue can be irritated by overuse or repetitive strain such as from standing, walking or running for long periods, or being overweight. It can also be strained from tight calf muscles (those in the back of the lower leg).

Plantar Fasciitis Symptoms

Symptoms of plantar fasciitis mainly include pain in the bottom of the foot, especially when walking or standing for prolonged periods or walking up or down stairs. The patient may also experience pain when taking the first few steps after sitting or lying down, following which, the pain lessens as the foot or feet are being used and the tissue is effectively being “loosened-up.”
