Top 5 Most Common Symptoms of Post Concussion Syndrome

At Moore MyoWorx we see hundreds of new post-concussion syndrome (PCS) patients per year.  These patients come from many different age demographics and exhibit a wide variety of symptoms. What are your guesses for the top 5 most common symptoms that might persist following a concussion? Using the results of our ongoing clinical research, here is what we found to be the top 5 most common symptoms by category.

The results below include data from January 2018 to July 2022 and represent outcome measure results from PCS patients at intake.

Unsurprisingly, we see that headaches (including migraines) are the most common symptom experienced by people with post-concussion syndrome.

The second most common symptom category, vision, may come as a surprise to people who have not experienced a concussion before. There are a significant number of unique vision-related symptoms that PCS patients experience including the following:

  • Blurry vision
  • Double vision
  • Convergence insufficiency (an eye condition that affects how your eyes work together when you look at nearby objects)
  • Divergence insufficiency (difficulty in the ability to point both eyes at a distant target)
  • Eye strain
  • Eye fatigue
  • Light sensitivity (including sensitivity to screens)

The last three symptom categories in order of prevalence are dizziness/vertigo, tinnitus (ringing in the ears), and TMJ (a jaw disorder that may cause pain and/or dysfunction).  Post-concussion syndrome can present very differently across individuals, so we do see many other symptoms than what is listed in the chart above.

Having these symptoms (and sometimes many more) persist can be completely overwhelming. Moore MyoWorx advanced treatment educates and empowers patients on how to alleviate ALL symptoms related to PCS and gives them back control of their lives. We can show you how what seems like many problems, can be easily understood and mitigated.
